In short
- Filing a complete application in time keeps your stay legal while you wait.
- The certificate is not a travel document.
- Work rights depend on your permit and employer, not on the pending case.
Many applicants wait months for a residence decision. Knowing what the waiting period allows, and what it doesn't, protects you from costly mistakes.
Your stay remains legal
If you file a complete application before your current visa or permit expires, your stay in Poland generally remains legal for as long as the procedure lasts, even when the office takes longer than the law intends.
Is this your situation? Two minutes will tell.
Travel is limited
The certificate you receive when you apply confirms your legal stay in Poland. It is not a travel document: on its own it does not let you cross the border or move freely within the Schengen area. Plan trips carefully and ask before you book.
Work depends on your situation
A pending application does not automatically give you the right to work. Whether you can work, and for whom, depends on your current permit, your employer's paperwork and your case. Check before you change jobs.
If the office goes quiet
Polish law gives you tools against inactivity. A formal complaint about delay (ponaglenie) can push a stalled case, and it is usually the step that opens the way to court. Parliament has also suspended the statutory deadlines for residence decisions more than once, so what applies depends on timing. We check it for your case.
